EU proposes a stop to herring fishing
28 August, 2023
The EU Commission proposes a stop to herring fishing in the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Bothnia. The reason is that fish stocks are at or below minimum levels.
Exceptions are made, however, for bycatch of herring and flounder which cannot be avoided in other fishing.
The proposal comes as the Commission presents its proposed quotas for commercial fishing for 2024.
